Three Ways to Decrease the Potential of Digital Ads Served in Offensive Content

The recent articles by the New York Times and USA Today are inherently valuable for digital marketing. They cite big advertisers dropping out of video buys based on the ads being served on questionable content. This issue brings to light an important issue in digital ad buying and trafficking: programmatic buying as a way of automation efficiencies and how to protect your brand from appearing on an offensive site.

Before working at Zirous, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

“My senior year of high school I worked as a CNA at a retirement center. It was the hardest job I ever had! It was the summer of my senior year and I worked from 6am until 3pm every day - it was a very physical full time job.”

What is the first concert you attended?

“Smashing Pumpkins when I was in eighth grade with a group of girlfriends. Our moms dropped us off at Stephens Auditorium in Ames and let us go in by ourselves - we thought we were pretty cool!”

How do you balance your career and family life?

“At Zirous we have a good work and family life balance. I can be flexible with my work schedule to be there when my kids need me and to make it to the things that are important to them. I try to be there for all of the important things and then fit my work in later at night after my kids are in bed if I need to.”

What one food do you wish had zero calories?

“Chocolate! Any sort of chocolate, especially the Cadbury Creme Eggs at Easter time!”

What have you gained from working at Zirous?

“I’ve gained so much professionally. I’ve had the opportunity to move up, progress my career and take on more challenges. When I started at Zirous I was in HR, so I’ve had the opportunity to try different things, learn about technology and progress into management levels that I may not have been able to at a larger company. I’ve really grown my career here into what I want it to be long term.”

If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?

“How cool would it be to go back and see the first world series game!? Especially with the Cubs winning the world series - I’m a big Cubs fan - how different would it have been back then...compared to what it is now?”

Back in High School, what did you think your career would be?

“I thought I wanted to be a nurse, which is why I worked the job as a CNA at the retirement home, and decided that wasn’t for me. Then I thought I wanted to be a High School counselor.”
